Bearings
We are not limited to specific bearing sizes. In some applications, electrically insulated bearings are required. Many standard sizes are readily available from manufacturers. If a suitable insulated bearing is not available, we work with a reliable coating partner to provide the necessary insulation.
Yes. In principle, any bearing type and rolling element geometry can be used.
The HCP Sense measurement principle is based on elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL), which occurs in rolling bearings of all sizes. Therefore, our technology can be applied to virtually any bearing size—from dental drills to wind turbines and beyond.
Since the technology is based on the operating principle of rolling bearings, it is independent of the bearing type. We can monitor needle bearings, ball bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, spherical roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, and many more.
HCP Sense can monitor virtually all rolling bearing types. A more detailed overview can be found in our article: Monitoring of almost all types of bearings
Signal
No. The measurement currents used in the bearing are extremely low and do not cause electrical bearing damage. According to Muetze (2003), the apparent bearing current density should remain below 0.1 A/mm² to avoid damage. Our measurement currents are well below this threshold.
Yes. Our software, including the underlying calculation model, is one of our core competencies. Lubrication monitoring and damage detection work without prior training because they are based directly on physical effects. Force measurement requires calibration for the specific bearing type. Alarm thresholds and recommended actions are defined together with the customer. Measurement values and visualizations can be customized according to your requirements.
Machine Integration
The cable routing can be adapted flexibly to your application. Both axial and radial electrical contact are possible.
Our sensor requires no mechanical modifications to the bearing itself. HCP Sense measures the bearing’s inherent electrical properties, so only an electrical contact to the bearing is required. No electronics are installed inside the bearing. The measurement unit can be positioned flexibly inside the machine or in the control cabinet.
Only a small borehole is required to establish electrical contact with the bearing. No additional installation space is needed around the bearing. In some applications, electrically insulated bearings are required. If suitable insulated bearings are unavailable, we can provide insulation through our trusted coating partner.
We follow a collaborative implementation process. Close cooperation with our customers is the key to success. From system analysis and defining project goals to presenting results and optimizing performance, we support you throughout the entire implementation process.
Data Processing & Storage
You can choose between cloud storage and local data storage. Both options provide high security standards. Cloud storage allows remote access at any time, while local storage enables complete offline operation.
General
A vibration sensor detects mechanical vibrations caused by existing defects on bearing raceways or rolling elements. As a result, it can only issue a warning after bearing damage has already occurred. HCP Sense, in contrast, monitors the root causes of bearing damage—namely load and lubrication—and can detect harmful operating conditions before damage develops. In addition, vibration sensors are often installed too far away from the bearing to provide reliable information, whereas HCP Sense measures directly at the source inside the bearing.
Depending on the availability of purchased components, a customized prototype can typically be delivered within approximately six weeks.
