Frequently asked questions
Do you have questions?
Here you can find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our HCP Sense product.
The measuring currents in the rolling bearing are so low that they do not cause any current damage. The bearing current density should be below 0.1A/mm2 (Muetze 2003) to avoid damage. Our measuring currents are far below this value.
A structure-borne sound sensor detects vibrations that occur due to mechanical defects on the raceways or rolling elements. It can therefore only send a warning when bearing damage has already occurred. HCP Sense, on the other hand, monitors the causes of damage, load and lubrication, and can thus warn of harmful conditions at an early stage, before damage occurs. In addition, vibration sensors are often too far away from the bearing to provide meaningful data. In contrast, HCP Sense data is extracted directly from the bearing.
We are not limited to specific sizes. In some applications we need to use insulated bearings, in many sizes these are available from the factory. If this is not the case, we have a reliable coater.
In principle, any bearing type and rolling element shape can be used.
The measuring principle of HCP Sense is based on elastodyrodynamic lubrication, which is present in all bearing sizes. Therefore, the measuring principle can also be used in all bearing sizes, from dentist’s drills to wind turbines and beyond.
The technology is based on the operating principle of rolling bearings, so we are independent of the type and can monitor needle roller, ball, roller, spherical, tapered roller bearings, and more.
Yes, the software with the stored calculation model is part of our core competence. Lubrication monitoring and damage detection basically work without prior teaching, since they relate directly to physical effects. For a force measurement, the bearing type must be calibrated beforehand. We work with you to determine the limit values above which recommendations for action are to be issued. How the measured values are displayed depends on your requirements.
The cable routing to the bearing can be adapted very flexibly to your requirements, it is possible to contact both axially and radially.
Our sensor does not require any design changes. HCP Sense measures the inherent electrical properties of the bearing, therefore only one electrical contact needs to be made and no electronics need to be integrated in the bearing. The measuring box itself can be flexibly positioned in the machine or in the control cabinet.
Only one hole is required for contacting the bearing. Additional installation space on the bearing is not required. In some applications we need to use insulated bearings, in many sizes these are available from the factory. If this is not the case, we have a reliable coater.

We rely on a collaborative implementation. We see the close collaboration with customers as the key to success. From system analysis and goal setting to results presentation and optimization – a detailed description of our approach can be found here.
We at HCP Sense can monitor almost all types of bearings. You can read a thorough explanation in our article: Monitoring of almost all types of bearings.
